Somalia put stop to female genital mutilation

FGM, also known as female circumcision, is a harmful practice that involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons.

Somalia has one of the highest prevalence rates of FGM in the world, with the practice deeply rooted in cultural and traditional beliefs. However, there have been various initiatives and campaigns aimed at ending FGM in Mogadishu and throughout Somalia. Some of these efforts include:

1. Legislation: In 2018, Somalia passed a law criminalizing FGM. This was a significant step towards eradicating the practice and holding perpetrators accountable.

While progress has been made in the fight against FGM in Somalia, there is still much work to be done. Changing deep-rooted cultural beliefs and practices takes time, but with continued efforts and collaboration at local, national, and international levels, it is possible to eliminate FGM in Mogadishu and beyond.
